The Washington Post
By The Way – Mexico City

I was commissioned by The Washington Post to create a lettering piece to represent Mexico City in their new city guide By The Way.
Their idea was to represent each city through a local's perspective, and I chose to work with a style that honors "Día De Muertos", a very unique tradition in Mexico. The lettering piece was designed in a slab serif style, and accompanied with ornaments resembling the ones found in "papel picado", or bunting.

↑ I started the process by sketching several ideas that reminded me of the city. Each one is inspired in iconic things you can find in Mexico City such as mariachis, sign painting at food carts, and bunting.
